Iran Earthquake

Iran Earthquake, striking the country on December 26, 2003 claimed numerous lives and devastated the nation like anything. The south-eastern part of the country was the worst affected region, witnessing the death of as many as 15,000 people at once.

Iran Earthquake had the ancient city of Bam as its epicenter, where almost all buildings were shattered after suffering the first, severe shock of the quakes. The total number of lives this national calamity claimed was countless, and several dead bodies were believed to have been buried under the huge debris.

Several countries who expressed their condolences fro the families of the dead, also extended helping hands generously for offering relief to the victims of Iran Earthquake. The relief and rescue operations were quickened up with the help of the local people, the Red Cross volunteers as well as the military people, who joined hands and worked really hard round-the-clock, to tackle the unfortunate situation efficiently.

An intense and heart-rending scene of misfortune and grief prevailed all over the silent necropolis after the severity of Iran Earthquake. Those survived were found weeping and wailing in front of the corpses of their loved ones. About 70 percent of the Iranian houses had turned into debris, which included significant places like the hospitals. The rescue teams were in full action, throwing food packets and medicines from helicopters. Special emergency medical and relief cells were also set up on temporary basis, to support and treat the injured earthquake victims.

In fact, the 2003 Iran Earthquake was a memorable one in terms of the destruction it caused to life and property in Iran.
