Shiraz

Shiraz, in Iran is situated in the foothills of the Zagros Mountains. During the Zand Dynasty Shiraz was the capital of Persia from 1750 to1781 and the capital of Southern Iran from 1781to 1794. It is well known as the city of wine, roses and poetry. Iranis consider Shiraz to be the 'City of love' because of many fruit trees and gardens seen all over the city. For more than a thousand years it has been serving as the regional trade center. According to 2005 census, its estimated population is about 1,255,955. Shiraz usually experiences a moderate climate. The Shiraz City consists of many palaces and gardens which are famous for its architectural designs. Shiraz is known as the birthplace of two great Persian poets, Hafez and Sa'di.
