Greece government and politics takes place in a large parliamentary representative democratic republic. The Prime Minister is the Head of the Government and the government exercises executive power. The flag of Greece was officially adopted on December 22, 1978. The blue and white colors of the flag represent the sea blue water and the white wave crests surrounding Greece. The flag has nine horizontal blue and white stripe. A white cross is positioned in the upper left corner by the flagpole. The white cross symbolizes Greek orthodox religion. The ratio of the flags height to its width is 2:3.

The Greek Parliament is democratically elected . It consists of 300 members, elected for a four year term . During the election the country is divided into small constituencies. Special electoral laws control the election norms. As in any other democracy in the world the voters select their leaders in the secret ballot. The leader of the winning party is appointed as the Prime Minister by the President.

Greek Independence is celebrated on March 25th. This day is one of the holiest days for the Greek orthodox Christians. This is the day of Annunciation for them. On this day the archangel Gabriel appeared to maiden Mary and announced about her immaculate conception.
