Benin Government



Benin Government comprises of the Executive branch, the Legislative branch and the Judicial branch. The 1990 constitution of Benin agreed on a multi-party election to be held across the land of Benin, which was a major move in the policies of the Benin Government. After this important decision was made, the name of the country got changed to the Republic of Benin.

According to the new rules of the Benin Government, the president is elected vis the popular voting system who holds his post for a span of five years. The changes of reelection of the same person is only twice, for the post of the president of the Government of Benin.

The National Assembly, which is also a vital part of the Benin Government, is elected by all the citizens who have reached the age of eighteen years or more. The National Assembly is elected for a span of four years only after the termination of which elections are held again. The National Assembly of the Government of Benin consists of Eighty three members.
