Belize land and people occupies a region of Central America just along the Caribbean sea between the countries of Mexico and Guatemala. Belize was earlier known as British Honduras. The lands of the country are low lying and occupied by cays and mangrove swamps throughout the coastline. The lands of Belize are covered with dense vegetation. The forests abound in cedar, mahogany trees which yield superior quality of timber. Belize's lands are extensively covered with savanna grasslands.
The people of Belize inhabit cities like Corozal, Orange Walk and Dangringa. The population is equally distributed in the cities as well as the villages. The descendants of the majority of the population of Belize can be traced to the people of African, Mayan and mestizo origins. The capital of Belize is Belmopan. It is is the only country in Central America which has English as its official language. Spanish is the second most popular language and is spoken far and wide across the country. The majority of the people of Belize are Roman Catholics while a very few are Protestants.
