The inhabitants of this Panama city are the descendants of mostly blacks, who were brought to this place to serve as slaves to the colonial masters. The inhabitants follow the same culture and inhabit the jungles. Their main profession is agriculture, fishing, hunting and rearing fowls. Iguanas, monkeys, birds, tigers and other wild animals are found here. Fishes like Black Merlin and Pacific Sailfish are also found here. Tuira and Chucunaque rivers are the largest rivers in this region of La Palma.
Cars and buses ply regularly to reach passengers from Panama City to this province. Plane is the best medium to get there. Canoes are the most preferred medium of water transport as the region is densely populated with thick jungles.
