Cristobal is one of the Panama cities. It is a port city situated at the gateway of Limon Bay opening the eastern side of the Panama Canal. The city has much to offer to the visitors through its sightseeing and other things. The city experiences a tropical maritime climate.


Cristobal is the port city bordering the city of Colon. It is also the Atlantic terminal port of Panama. Both the Panama cities were named after the great adventurer Christopher Columbus. Cristobal was named after Christopher and Colon were named after Columbus. The city is a narrow strip of land joining Manzanillo Island with the mainland. In the year 1914, Cristobal city was accepted as the port city for the exchange of goods.

The city has a tropical maritime climate as it is situated near the sea. January to March are the driest months sometimes experiencing heavy showers. April to December are the monsoon months with humidity. Spanish and English are the languages spoken by the people of Cristobal. Cristobal Pier is the main docking place for the ships.

Education and Economy

Like other cities in Panama, Cristobal is also dedicated to training its youth through quality education. Cristobal city has a large number of Spanish schools imparting knowledge in varied Spanish courses. Cristobal offers limited shopping but the pier houses a large shopping complex. Especially the Flea Market in the Cristobal cruise Terminal is worth visiting. Goods ranging from local crafts to accessories are available at the marketplace. Hand-weaved baskets, wood carvings, perfumes clothes, and jewelry of various colors and designs are found here.

The main attraction in this city is the Panama Canal. There are ways to visit the canal. One can go by ship enjoying the scenic beauty of the azure waters and nature or can prefer to ride by train. Besides visitors can also go by motor coach to tour the canal. Gatun Locks and the rain forests are also other attractions of the Cristobal city of Panama.
