Latvia had always been a land of sports. Latvia Sports include Hockey, Soccer, Hiking, Bird watching as well as Water sports. Sports in Latvia was founded in the 19th century through many clubs and associations. In fact Sports of Latvia was so well shaped that Latvian sportsmen have the privilege of being a part of the World Cup.
The favorite Latvian Sports during the summer are hand-ball, volleyball, basketball, track and field, where as during the winter biathlon, hockey, bobsledding and luge are the favorites. However the most important sport there is the Latvia Hockey, which started developing much more after the independence of Latvia.
Latvia Sports have both governmental and non-governmental organizations. Prior to World War I, Riga was considered to be one of the main sports centers of the Russian Tsarist Empire, along with St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kiev and Revel. Few famous Sports organizations are the Jelgava Swimmers’ Society, the Riga Chess Club, the Rujiena Town Hunters’ Society, the Riga Riflemen Society, the Empire Riga Sailing Club, the I Riga Bicycle Society, the Riga Gymnastic Club and the Riga Rowing Club.
Hiking, Bird watching and Water Sports are also the traditional Latvia Sports, which are practiced there for ages.
