The Southern Great Plain also resembles its northern counterpart to a great extent and has all the usual characteristics of a Hungarian countryside such as the livestock, agriculture, farms and the age-old traditions of the simple country folk.

It is the only region in Hungary, wherein diverse traditional Hungarian dialects can still be heard. The whole region is centered round the city of Szeqed, which is simultaneously popular throughout Europe for its indigenous open-air theater, where prose and musicals are arranged throughout the year. The entire site is very remarkable, with a magnificent cathedral for a background to the open-air stage.

A complete lack of high natural formations like hills, has led to even the occasional orchards being classified as hills or “hogy” by the locals of the Southern Great Plain. The entire region is a treasure house of diverse fruits, which had been planted in the region so as to avoid soil erosion. There are aplenty farms, towns, forests, vineyards, Cuman hills and mulberry and poplar trees. The pusztas provide for the principal means of livelihood in the region. Beaches and thermal waters attract tourists in dozens from all over the world. The region is rich in folk tradition and the culture of various communities exists side by side in harmony.
