Florianopolis Map

Commonly referred as Floripa, Florianopolis Brazil is found on the island of Santa Catarina. As the state capital of Santa Catarina, the region is situated on the western coasts of the Ilha de Santa Catarina Island and connected to the Brazilian mainland through Hercilio Luz – the longest hanging bridge in Brazil.

Named after Marshall Floriano Peixoto, the second President of the Brazilian Republic, Florianopolis Brazil is a well-known international travel destination. Covering a land area of 437 km2, the island was inhabited by 369, 102 people in 2004. As many as 42 marine beaches in Florianopolis Brazil offer breathtaking spectacles to the visitors, who enjoy bathing in the golden sunrays, lying on the warm sands.

The isle location of Florianopolis Brazil is dotted with lakes, springs, sand dunes and tiny islands, adding to the natural beauty of the region.. Famous sea shores like Joaquina, Jurere and Canasvieiras encourage extensive water sports both at national and international levels, forming another cause for tourists to throng this place.

Numerous fortresses like the Fortress of Sao Jose da Ponta Grossa between Daniela and Jurere beaches and Fortress of Santa Cruz situated on Anhatomirim Island are other centers of popular attraction on Florianopolis Brazil coasts. Built to resist the Spanish and Dutch colonial intrusions in the 16th and 17th centuries, the relics of most of these historical constructions form a part of the island’s national heritage.

Traces of Portugese invasions are reflected in the architectures of Florianopolis Brazil. The authentic fishing village in coastal Pantano do Sul, the rural areas of Santo Antonio de Lisboa, the vibrant nocturnal life of Lagoa da Conceicao seashores, together with the houses, museums (Cruz e Souza and Victor Meirelles) and churches bear traces of colonial architectures. A wide range of seafood platters comprising shrimps, mussels and fishes contributes immensely towards the growing popularity of Florianopolis Brazil globally, as a well-known tourist spot.
