Uzbekistan economy and business has gone through rapid development in the recent years. Agriculture, mining and minerals are the main economic activities of the country. The government has taken initiatives in building a market based economy in the country. The economy of Uzbekistan is mainly dependent on agriculture and agricultural processing works.
Uzbekistan Economy
Agriculture is the backbone of the economy of Uzbekistan and cotton is the main export item of the country. Rice is also one of its main agricultural outputs and cereals, fruits, kenaf, tobacco, sugarcane and alfalfa grass are also grown extensively. Livestock farming is also an important part of its economy and is extensively carried in the arid western parts of Uzbekistan. The textile industry of Uzbekistan has also developed manifold due to the increase in the production of cotton, silk and wool.
The mining industry of Uzbekistan has added to the national output of the country. Gold, coal, copper, zinc, lead, fluorspar, uranium, tungsten and molybdenum are the main mineral resources of the country. Large deposits of natural gas are also found in the country and is utilized to its best.
Since independence, lot of emphasis has been given on the handicraft industry of the country. Silk weaving and carpet dying are the main cottage industries of the country.
Food processing, metallurgy, construction, chemical and fertilizer are also important industries of the country.
