The northern region of Malawi has Mzuzu as its gateway. Mzuzu with its suitable location provides just the ideal view of the scenic beauty of Viphya and the Nyika plateau.

Mzuzu located in the northern Region of Malawi experiences climate that favors agriculture, and a number of crops are found to be grown here. Of these, coffee and rubber are the two crops that are cultivated along the slopes of the neighboring mountains. This region experiences high rainfall and is also characterized by the presence of pine plantations. As such, this is one location that is found to maintain its green cover throughout the year.

Till the 1960’s Mzuzu was not very well connected with the other parts of Malta and this hindered the developmental process. This happens to be the reason why the northern part of Malawi is found to be less developed than the southern part.

However, in recent years improvements have been made in the sphere of transport and communication. Today, there is the presence of buses that ply on a regular basis between Mzuzu and some of the other very noted destinations of Malawi. Besides road service, Air Malawi is engaged in providing flight service to this region of Malawi.

The road found here too is noted for its prominence in terms of beauty. This road elevates from the Henga valley that cuts through the Viphya Mountains and the Nyika plateau, and reaches an altitude of 1100 meters. It then moves down to the Lakeshore.
