The Broadcasting Service of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is owned by the state authorities and it operates four TV networks in the country, including the Al-Ikhbariya Channel. Privately owned TV and radio stations are not allowed in the Saudi Arabian country, but there is a wide market for paid channel broadcasters and pan-Arab satellite channels. Saudi investors like Dubai-based MBC and Bahrain-based Orbit are some of the popular names in this field.
The Saudi Arabian newspapers are managed by royal verdict. There are 10 daily newspapers and a wide range of other magazines. Pan-Arabian newspapers, which are considerably censored in their viewpoint, are also available in the market. The Saudi Radio is also operated by state authorities and programs are thoroughly revised before broadcasting.
The government has also blocked many Internet sites, which it regards as offensive since many women serve the net on a daily basis.
