Kyrgyzstan land and people are an eyeopener to the fascinating circumstances of the central Asian nations where women dominate the population and almost all are educated. The land of Kyrgyzstan has a serene beauty created by the the tallest mountain ranges of central Asia and the deepest gorges washed by small rivulets gurgling off and a few verdant fertile plains and alpine lakes that are the wondrous jewels of the country.
The population of Kyrgyzstan is a little more than five million with a male-female ratio of 0.962 male(s)/female that speaks volumes for the gender equality. The ethnic population is segregated into:
Kyrgyz approx. 65%,
Russian approx.12%,
Ukrainian 1%,
Dungan approx.1%,
Uzbek approx.14%,
Uygur 1%
The other minorities constitute about six percent of the population, which is growing at a rate of barely more than 1%. Although a predominantly patriarchal society a salient feature of Kyrgyzstan is the high concentration of female population. Kirghiz or Kyrgyz is the official language accompanied by Russian in the regions of Russian predominance. Although about three-fourth of the people are Muslims yet Russian Orthodox Christianity is practiced by one-fifth of the population while the rest 5% follow other religions or are agnostic or atheist.
The Kyrgyzstan land and people are thus a fascinating study and provide a deep insight into the realities of the central Asian nations.
