Demographics of Kenya are very diverse as the country comprises of population who belongs to a number of ethnic groups. The diversity is not only in the ethnic descent but also religious. People of forty African tribes comprises of the population of Kenya. Though Kenya has a number of big cities like Nairobi and Mombasa about seventy percent of the populations are rural dwellers engaged in farming. The living standards in the cities of Kenya are higher than the rural areas and also in comparison to the other African countries. According to the last census the total population of Kenya is about 36,913,721. Most of the people of Kenya are followers of Christianity and little percentage are also followers of Islam.
The point to be noted about the demographics of Kenya is the high mortality rate it is witnessing due to the attack of AIDS. The numbers of children in Kenya are quite high. About 43% of the population is within the age group of 0 to 14 years. The population growth rate according to the census is 2.57%. The demographic data of Kenya shows that the birth rate of the country is very high in comparison to the death rate of the country. The names of the tribes of Kenya to which most of people belong are Kikuyu, Kamba, Luo, Meru, and Luhya. The sex ratio of Kenya does not have a great disparity. The life expectancy of the Kenyan people are comparatively less than the developed western countries, it is in and around 55 years. The demographics of the country of Kenya give a proper picture of the condition of the country.
