The national flag of Belize consists of horizontal stripes of red, dark blue, and red. It also contains the national coat of arms on its wide middle stripe.

The national coat of arms is white and consists of a green, circular, garland of 50 olive leaves. The 50 leaves represent the year 1950, which was when Belize began its quest for independence from Britain.

The coat of arms also comprises two men on either side: one holding an axe, and on the right side another man holding an oar. Below the coat of arms is a flowing scroll bearing the Latin motto, which is "sub umbra floreo". The meaning of this motto is "under the shade I flourish" or "under the shade of the mahogany tree we flourish".
