Fiji is situated i the southwest Pacific Ocean. It is consisted of 332 islands. 110 of these islands are inhabited by different groups of people. Viti Levu, 4,109 sq mi in size and Vanua Levu, 2,242 sq mi in size are the two largest islands of Fiji. It has got a Republican government. Fiji population is 918,675.
The first inhabitants came from South East Asia. The Europeans came later on in the 19th century. British came in power in 1874 and in 1970 the country became independent. Fiji government has the Prime Minister as the head, the President as the head of the state. It has got a multi-party system.
Fiji is rich in forest, mineral and fish resources. Sugar industry is one of the main source of its profit.
The population is mainly consisted of native Fijians and Indo-Fijians. While Fijians are mainly Christian, Indo-Fijians are mostly Hindu and Muslim.
Being a multicultural nation Fiji culture combines the indigenous, Indian as well as European culture. Meke is an indigenous art form. Rugby is considered to be the most famous sport here. Fiji is a diverse land with different people, rich culture and beautiful landscapes.
