The Physical Map of Brunei


The small nation of Brunei is located in Borneo in Southeastern Asia. Bordered by East Malaysia and the South China Sea, Brunei is known for its flat coastal terrain that comprises mountains on its east and hills on the west end. The total area of Brunei is 5,765 square kilometers with only 500 square kilometers of water. It has a coastline of 161 kilometers.

Agricultural land use is just 2.5% of the country’s total land area with only 08% being arable. The physical map of Brunei depicts that the nation is composed of 71.8% of forest land. As of 2012, only 10 square kilometers were irrigated land. Although Brunei has five rivers, it is the Brunei River which is the country’s shortest river but is most prominent on the physical map of Brunei because it flows north-east through the country and into Brunei Bay.

The average elevation of Brunei is 478 meters with its lowest point at the South China Sea at zero meters. Bukit Pagon is the highest mountain in the country with an elevation of 1,850 meters and is located close to the Malaysian border. Bukit Tudal, which has an elevation of 1,181 meters, is located on the border of Brunei and Malaysia. Most of inner Brunei is mountainous with majority of summits reaching an elevation of 700 to 900 meters.

The capital of Brunei is Bandar Seri Begawan which has a population of more than 64,400. It is located at 4.94 latitude and 114.95 longitude with an elevation of 16 meters above sea level.
