Paysandu



Paysandu is one of the major cities of Uruguay. This city has the reputation of being the third largest city of Uruguay. Paysandu is known to be the capital of the Paysandu Department. As per the data report of 2004, the total population of this city was 73,272.

The city of Paysandu lies at the geographical coordinates of 32º19’17”South latitude and 58º4’32” West longitude. This place is located at an approximate distance of 378 kilometers from Montevideo. Paysandu of Uruguay shares its boundary with Argentina. It was a priest known as Policarpo Sandu and 12 families of Christianized Indians who are known to be the founders of the city of Paysandu.

Paysandu in Uruguay is connected by General Artigas Bridge across the river from Argentina, Colon and Entre Rios. The famous football player known as Sebastian Quintana had his hometown in this place. This city is the storehouse of the breweries of Uruguay. There are also tanneries and textile factories in the city.

A festival known as the Semana de la Cerveza or Week of the Beer is also held with extreme merriment in Paysandu. The festival witnesses performances of music, carnival type rides, arts and so on. The place becomes very vibrant during this festival time of Uruguay.
