South Africa's biggest domestic and international airline is the South African airways. Its main hub is located at Cape Town and Johannesburg. The other name of South African airways is the Afrikaanse Lugdiens. This name is no more used.
Earlier it was called the Union Airways and later in 1934 it was renamed as South African Airways. South African Airways offered flights to Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
International flights from South Africa started being offered to Kenya and Uganda. Progress was stalled till 1950.The jet service war introduced and Boeing 707 was introduced.
Again the progress was stopped for sometimes due to the problem of apartheid. Most of the countries were not willing to trade with South Africa and as a result the airlines service received a set back.
The year 1970 saw the starting of flights to Asia. It was a remarkable achievement.Flights was introduced to Taipei.
In 1997 the whole of the South African airways went for a change. The flight services from South Africa again resumed to Buenos Aires and São Paulo's Guarulhos. Slowly and steadily the remodeling process of the airport services began.
South African Airways has gone through a long process of improvement.
