Nauru Hospitals are two in number and they are solely responsible for the general Nauru health care. The two hospitals of Nauru are namely Nauru General Hospital and Nauru Phosphate Corporation Hospital. Nauru health is a matter of great concern to the health ministry and adequate measures are taken to improve the health standards in Nauru. The Nauru hospitals are very particular about giving the people of Nauru vaccine against deadly diseases like Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Tetanus.
The Nauru health departments also make it a point to see that all tourists coming to Nauru have doses of vaccine against diseases like hepatitis B and tuberculosis in order to ensure that none of these diseases are transmitted to the locals. The Nauru hospitals are maintained properly and are adequate for treating general health problems but for any serious health related ailments one has to fly somewhere else as these facilities are not available.
The Nauru General Hospital is a government run hospital of Nauru and it gives free medical treatments to the masses. The Nauru General hospital has got its affiliation from the Burnese Medical Council, Republic of Nauru Ministry of Health and the South African Medical and Dental Council.
The Nauru Phosphate Corporation is a private organization and is run for the Nauru Phosphate Corporation employees and the expatriates. They cater to the need of the employees of phosphate industry only.
These two Nauru hospitals are set up for the daily check up of the patients but the infrastructure of these two hospitals are not adequate to support the medical requirements in case of serious health problems. However, steps are being taken to improve the conditions to make them self-sufficient. Modern medical facilities are being provided to the hospitals to overcome the serious health crisis in the country.
