After independence in the year 1960, Rosso of Mauritania became a junction between Rosso and the border of the country. Rosso is also considered as the junction point of Rosso, the river zone and the Rosso-Boghe road.
Rosso at Mauritania is a famous tourist destination and at the same time serves as the access to Senegal. The neighboring Diawling National Park and the hunting camp at Keur Macene are the favorite tourist stopovers in Rosso Mauritania. Other attractions include the place called Mederdra which was once the capital of the Emirate of Trarza. The local arts and artifacts as well as the sun dunes and the art industry made of gold, silver and ebony are a hot favorite among the tourists.
