The standard of
health care in Fiji is fairly high, and there are a number of
hospitals in and around Fiji that take care of
medical situations and keep people healthy.
Fiji is a group of islands in the south Pacific Ocean. Being a major tourist location, it is important that
medicine and
health care would be an important part of its agenda. The
medical facilities in Fiji are adequate for handling general and routine conditions and situations.
Emergency facilities used to be below average until recently. At present, hospitals in Fiji are well equipped to handle emergency situations, and many hospitals are equipped with the latest machinery and technologies, providing health care conforming to international standards.
Hospitals offering premium health and medical services, though, are few in number. The Lautoka hospital, situated in Lautoka in western Fiji, provides world class health care. Another major hospital is the Colonial War Memorial hospital in Suva, the capital city. These offer advanced medical care, emergency services and outpatient services.
A number of private
hospitals in and around Suva have also started providing quality medical service in recent years. These are improving the standards of medical service in Fiji. Though the hospitals are well equipped to handle emergencies, they are often diverted to locations like Australia, New Zealand or the United States for surer treatment.
Other
hospitals in Fiji are located at locations like Ba, Labasa, Savusavu, Sigatoka, Taveuni, Kadavu and Nadi.
