Toronto, the largest city of Canada is situated on the Northwest bank of Lake Ontario. The total area of the city is about 629.91 square kilometers. Toronto was under the Great Lake Iroquois in the last Ice Age.
Today the city, which claims to be the economic center of Canada, has a population of about 2503,281. According to the 2006 estimation, Toronto has been considered to be the most costly city in Canada to inhabit. Some of the major economic sectors of the place include business services, finance, film and television production, aerospace, software production etc. Incidentally, the Toronto Stock Exchange is marked as the sixth largest in the world.
The word “ Toronto” is said to be derived from the Iroquois word “tkaronto” meaning a place where trees stand in water. No wonder if you have a look at the city's map you will find the entire area crisscrossed by the Humber and the Don Rivers and their several territories. In between there is the Toronto Harbor.
