But in 1792 the empire of Hadsburg conquered Koper and was shifted to the Italian Empire in 1919. Koper became a region of the Republic of Slovenia in 1954. A census in 1995 constituted that Koper consists of 24, 595 natives and inhabitants of Slovenia. Koper is rich in architectural and cultural monuments.
