The island nation of Madagascar has around 9 public holidays declared throughout the state and observed in all governmental offices and educational institutions across the nation.

Madagascar public holidays begin from the very first day of each year. The state has a declared holiday on New Year’s Day. 29th of March is celebrated as the day for the Commemoration of the 1947 Rebellion.

This day marks and remembers all those who lost their lives in the revolt against French domination. The state also observes a holiday on 1st of May on Labor Day.

The same month also includes another public holiday in the form of Ascension Day. 26th June is the most important of all public holidays of Madagascar, as the island celebrates its Independence day. On this very day the island became autonomous and the power was transferred from France in the year 1960. 15th Aug is a holiday on account of Assumption Day.

The festival of Christmas is another declared holiday in the state. The year and the list of Madagascar public holidays comes to a close with the Republic day, which is celebrated throughout the nation as the Anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Madagascar.
