Nepal Clothing

Nepal clothing is an integral part of the culture of Nepal. There are various types of clothing in Nepal. The dresses of the Nepali people vary from one tribe to another. With changing times, Nepal’s clothing has also undergone several changes and modifications. Modern and western dresses are worn by young boys and girls in Nepal. During special occasions or festivals, everyone is seen adorning the traditional Nepali dress.

Nepal clothing has several similarities with Tibetan dresses. The wool produced from the yaks is the primary raw material that is used in the manufacturing of the dresses. The wool that is obtained is made into yarn and then dresses are manufactured from them in varying colors. The traditional dresses of men are in the form of a long coat called ‘chuba’, made of yak’s wool and a pair of woolen pants. Women in Nepal also wear similar type of apparel. During extreme winters, thick woolen rugs are used by the people.

Shoes in Nepal are made from yak hide and are called ‘kaza’ locally. The interior of the shoe is padded to make it soft as well as warm. The ‘kata’ is a silk piece of cloth that is wrapped around a person’s shoulder and is used to show great reverence and appreciation to the person. These dresses are worn by the ethnic tribes and clans and also by the Nepali people on certain festivals and celebrations.
