Tourists who want to visit Madagascar are required to get a visa from the concerned authorities. They can obtain a short term Madagascar visa valid for a period of three months. Such a visa can be obtained from the airport at the time of arrival or from a port of entry. They are also granted from the Washington Embassy at Massachusetts Avenue NW Washington DC 20008, and from the New York UN Mission. Apart from the United States, Madagascar visa can be obtained from the French embassy in Paris, Kenya Honorary Consulate at Nairobi and UK Honorary Consulate in London.
Visa applications forms are also available through post. The tourists are supposed to meet certain visa requirements of Madagascar in order to obtain it. The visa applicants must possess a valid passport while applying for a visa to Madagascar. There should be an affixed passport photograph and the form should be complete with all the necessary particulars filled in. The visa fee can be paid in travel agency cheques, personal cheques or certified cheques payable to 'Consulate of Madagascar'. The passport along with the visa is delivered within a couple of days and if the applicant presents himself at the Embassy it is issued on the spot. The visa is valid for a period of six months from its date of issue.
Long term visas to Madagascar are issued by the Ministry of the Interior in Antananarivo. The issuance of a long term visa requires some time, which can even be a couple of months. The passport of the applicant must be valid for at least a year. The application form should be filled and duly signed. Visas for scientific research are issued post research authorization by the Ministry of Scientific Research.
