In the historic times, Kanto was the home of Tokugawa Shogunate and Edo, the military seat of power. Later on, Kanto became the seat of modern development. At present, it houses the largest group of universities and cultural institutions, largest population and a huge industrial zone. Although, most part of Kanto is used for commercial, residential and industrial construction, certain parts of the region are still used for farming.
Kanto region is the most urbanized, highly developed and industrialized part of Japan. The hub of the region, Tokyo-Yokohama district forms the core of Japan's commerce and industry. The Keihin Industrial Zone and Keiyo Industrial Zone, extending along the shores of the Tokyo Bay, form the biggest industrial zone of Japan.
The climatic conditions of Kanto are very mild and favorable. The winters are long and cool and summers are humid and short.
The city of Kanto is renowned for its culture and entertainment. There is a wide variety of modern and traditional arts. Classical as well as popular music is performed at many concert halls of Tokyo. There are numerous art museums and galleries in Tokyo. Ginza and Asakusa are popular tourist destinations of Kanto .
