Lahij or Lahej or Lahj is a city of Yemen, which is located between Taiz and Aden. The city of Lahij is located on the Wadi Tibban in the coastal plain, about 30 miles north of Aden. Lahij lies on the main road,
which runs from Aden city to the northern parts of western Yemen. The current population of the city of Lahij is approximately 727,203.

From the 18th to 20th century, the rulers of Lahij city were Al Abdali family who along with Al Aqrabi, Al Sindi and Al Ramada were ancestors of Ahl-al-Bayt dynasty. Lahij was initially a capital of Abdali Sultanate, which was abolished after Yemen gained independent status in the year 1967. The city was renamed as Al-Hawtah or Al-Houta during the 1960's.

The city of Lahij is a regional centre, which is largely dependent on its agricultural products. The region in Yemen enjoys a considerable amount of rainfall during the winter season, although it is originally a dry area. The neighboring towns and cities of Lahij include Kudaymah and Tahrur on the eastern edge, Sufyan on the northern boundary, Muqaybirah on the southern end and Dubbah and Ubar al Aslum on the western boundary.
