The Togo Flag was officially adopted on the 27th of April, 1960, on the very date when the country received its independence from the French colonial rule. It is important to note here that Ahyi Paul was the designer of the Togo Flag.
Elements of Togo Flag
The colors of Togo flag are yellow, red and green, each having its own significance. There are five parallel stripes in the Togo Flag. Out of these stripes the first, third and fifth stripes from the top are green in color while the other two stripes are yellow. On the left side of the flag there is a red colored square displayed, which has a star in the middle of it.
Significance of the Togo Flag
Each of the elements that are included in the Togo Flag has a meaning and significance of its own. The red star stands for the faithfulness and patriotism of the citizens of the country. The green colored stripes indicate agricultural productivity of the country and also represent the expectations and growth of Togo. Togo’s mineral resources and economic progress are represented by the yellow stripes. The white colored star in the middle of the red square indicates peace, dignity and purity. It also represents the independence of the country.
Thus, it can be concluded that the Togo flag truly represents the sacrifices and struggles that have gone in to earning independence for the country.
