Peru Flag was adopted officially on 25th February, 1825 during the administration of Simon Bolivar. Through a law of nation symbol the previous design of the flag was changed. The sun was replaced with the coat of arms. The vertical triband has white in the middle and red on both the sides.
The colors of the Peru Flag are the symbol of the Incas and their prolonged impact on the country. More than that the Liberator, Jose de San Martin chose the red and white color. He was supported by Francisco Javier Cortes. Two important symbols of Peru the llama and the chichona trees are featured in the coat of arms. The prosperity is represented by a cornucopia.
According to the use the emblems and the names of the Flag of Peru changes. It is used in various forms like the National Flag (civil), State Flag, War Flag, Naval Jack etc.
The Civil Flag is used by the citizens. It underwent many changes. Finally the coat of arms was removed from the middle of the Civil Flag in 1950 by Manuel A. Odria. The State Flag is hoisted in important occasions. The War Flag is quite similar to the state flag but the coat of arms is replaced by the national shield. National police and Peruvian military use it. The Naval Jack is quite different from all these flags. It is a square white flag with a red border and the coat of arms in the middle.
