Niger Flag forms the national identity of the Republic of Niger in the international political arena. The present Niger Flagreceived formal acceptance on the 23rd day of November, in the year 1959.
The National Flag of Niger is tricolor in appearance, with three horizontal stripes or bands of three different colors, namely orange, white and green respectively, from top to bottom. At the center of the white strip, lies an orange-colored wheel or disc. The tricolor Flag of Niger has resemblances with the Indian National Flag in the sense that all the colors used in the Niger Flag have individual significances.
The orange color stands for the Savannah grasslands situated in the northern parts of the Sahara Desert. Purity and innocence are simultaneously represented by the white color that lies at the center of the Niger National Flag. The green-colored stripe symbolizes River Niger as well as the lush green rainforests of the country. The orange wheel lying at the central part of the flag signifies the eternal sun as well as the state's keenness to protect and retain its liberty. Flag of Niger has a standard proportion of its own, having a ratio of 6:7.
In fact, Niger Flag was adapted much before the country's independence from the French rule. Viewed normally, the flag offers numerous resemblances with the National Flag of India. However, the unique thing about Niger Flag is that the significance of its remarkable off-square ratio is still unknown. This is where it differs from the Indian Flag and bears an exceptional recognition in the international political scenario.
