Malta became an independent state in the year 1964. Conventionally the nation is known as the “Republic of Malta”. The Malta flag comprises of two vertical bands divided in equal proportion. The flag is colored white in the hoist side and holds the George Cross. The edges of this symbol are red in color.
The national flag of Malta came into being in the year 1964, 21st September. The conventional white and red color is taken from the Knights of Malta. The symbol on the upper left side of the Malta flag was added in the year 1940. The emperor George VI gifted this to the islanders for their bravery during the Second World War.
