Laos Flag

Laos Flag has a white circle in the center that stands for justice and promise of the future. Blue represents prosperity. Red signifies unity and purpose and the bloodshed during the struggle for freedom. It became effective on 2nd December, 1975.

According to another interpretation the white circle symbolizes the full moon over the blue Mekong River which can be found in most part of Laos. The flag of the Lao patriotic Front is the base of Laos Flag. The front was known as Pathet Lao which fought the nationalist independence movement.

The previous Laos Flag was replaced in 1952. The current one is one of the few Communist-style flags that do not feature a star. The new one has two red strips at the top and at the bottom. There is a blue strip in between them. The ratio of the flag's height to the width is 3:2.

Flag of Laos is hoisted on the Independence Day and other important days. To respect the Laos Flag is one of the constitutional duties of the people of Laos. Flag in Laos represents the spirit of the people who struggled hard to get independence. Therefore people have high esteem for the flag.
