Ecuador Flag

The present Ecuador Flag was officially 26th of September, 1860 by Gabriel Garcia Moreno. The Ecuador Flag became effective from 7th of November, 1900 when “coat of arms” were included in the flag by the National Congress.

Description of the Ecuador Flag

The Flag of Ecuador display three primary colors, red, blue and yellow. All these colors were chosen very carefully in order to bring out the true essence of the historical struggle that have gone into gaining freedom for this country. The flag illustrates three parallel stripes, each painted in the three different shades which are yellow, blue and red. First is the yellow stripe which is meant to remind the population of Ecuador about the Federation of Greater Columbia. Next is the blue horizontal line that symbolizes Ecuador’s freedom earned from Spain. And last but not the least is the red horizontal stripe that stands for courage. As far as the Coat of arms of the Ecuador Flag is concerned, “the Andean Condor” stands for power and courage. In the background of the flag is the Chimborazo Mountain which is meant to represent the close ties between Sierra and the Coast. The Boat stands for trade and peace. The zodiac signs of Aries, Taurus, Gemini and cancer are included in the centre of the flag with the purpose of symbolizing the historically important months for Ecuador. The sun which is placed in the centre of blue sky is regarded as Inca Symbol.

One another important fact about Ecuador Flag is that it is very much similar to that of Venezuela and Colombia.
