Tourist Attractions in Akure
Some of the places which are frequented by visitors to Akure are Deji’s old and new palaces (Aafin Deji), Aafin Oba Osolo, Aafin Oba Iralepo, Oba’s Market (Oja Erekesan), (Oke Eda); the Federal University of Technology Akure, Old Colonial Secretariat to name the most important ones.
History of Akure
The historical accounts of Akure are indeed very interesting. If it is ancient history that is being studied, the area around the Akure region has been excavated and human remains dating back to stone age era have been unearthed. The engravings found from the same age are of immense importance to anthropologists. In the more recent past Akure was an independent region, until the 19th century, when it was included in Benin kingdom. In 1894, the control over the region passed on to Great Britain.
