Micronesia history chronicles the occupation of the Micronesian lands by different colonial powers. The island was the domain of Spain in the 17th century. It passed on to the hands of Germany in 1898 when the Germans purchased it from the Spanish colonizers.

After being occupied by European colonizers for so long, it became a territory of Japan during the First World War. The reigns of Micronesia passed on to the American forces when they seized it from the Japanese and took control of it during the Second World War.

The state acquired the right to self-governance in 1979 and subsequently came to be known as the Micronesian Federation. A significant development in the history of Micronesia occurred when it was declared that the erstwhile trust territory agreement was annulled. This gave way to the independent Federated States of Micronesia in 1986. Another important step ahead for Micronesia was its incorporation into the United Nations in 1991. It became a member of the International Monetary Fund in 1993. Little is known about the Micronesia history, as it is a very small nation in the Pacific.
