The Southern Asir region has grasslands and trees, which makes this region unique from the rest of Saudi Arabia. As such, the most frequent plant in the country is date palm and most of the date palms are grown in the Al-Sharquiyah province. There are many other shrubs and herbs, which can endure harsh weather conditions.
Among the Saudi Arabia fauna, camel is the most common of all animals. This animal has been domesticated by the people, especially the Bedouin tribes. The arid regions have been home to different species of fauna and avi-fauna. Those that deserve mention include hyenas, panthers, wild cats, ibexes, sand rats, hedgehogs, jerboas, wolves, hares, flamingos, pelicans, pigeons and bustards. Due to uncontrolled poaching the population of oryxes, ostriches and mountain goats have suffered a setback in the recent years.
The Saudi Arabia flora and fauna also include a variety reptiles and snakes, which roam the vast deserts and the arid landscapes.
