Qatar Religion has Islam as its official religion. A major number of the inhabitants in Qatar practice the Sunni Islam religion. This Islamic Qatar Religion is as old as the 7th centuries and the nation is a devout Muslim country since then. Most of the holidays in Qatar apart from the public holidays are religious holidays, like, Eid Al Fitr, which is followed by Eid Al Adha after 40 days. Qatar pays due respect to the followers of other religions as is expected from those observing other ones. All this includes that those belonging to other religions should maintain the Qatar laws and rules about dressing and behaving in public.
Apart from the Sunni Muslims, there is also a small Shi'ite community in Qatar. The Sunni religion in Qatar is of political origin and it got separated from the Shia sect of religion on theological grounds. Those observing the Sunni religion approach God directly or at times via the imams who hold considerable amount of political and religious authority. The mosque owned lands are usually managed by the committee members of the socially prominent worshipers. These imams and Qadis or judges are appointed by the government. The religious endowments or waqfs are taken care of by the state government.
The two main festivals, which are parts of the religion of Qatar, are Id al Adha which is a sacrificial ceremony held ten days from Dhu al Hajjah and the Id al Fitr, celebrated at the end of Ramadan, a month long fasting. The duration of each of these two festivals is two or three days.
The relatively small group of Shia Muslims are staunch believers of the Prophet Mohammad and for them Allah is imamate.
