Norfolk Island Music and Dance



Norfolk Island music and dance is one of the delightful aspects of the culture of the island. The different forms of Norfolk Island music and dance reflect the rich tradition of the Pitcairn people.

A famous musician of Norfolk Island is George 'Toofie' Christian, who is known for his album Pilli Lornga N.I. His songs are about the life, relationships, food, dance and life on the island. They are accompanied by the music of steel guitar, rhythm guitar and percussion.

Norfolk Island Music Festival takes place every year in May, which is completely enjoyed by music fans of the island. The celebrations of the music festival continues for a full a week and showcases the talents of various music artists. It is also famous as the Norfolk Island Country Music Festival and it was held between 22nd and 29th May in 2005. In 2003 the music festival celebrated its 10th anniversary. During that time the island was totally packed with tourists and fans of the island's music. The festival is supposed to be held next between 25th May and 1st June in 2008.

The islanders are fond of their own dance, which forms a part of festivals and celebrations. The entire island becomes a hot and happening place with the onset of the Norfolk Island Dance Festival, which takes place in March.

The traditional Norfolk Island music and dance, bear close association with those of the Pitcairn people.
