Micronesia flora and fauna include diverse forms of plant and animal life. This biodiversity attracts a number of botanists and zoologists. The flora of the region ranges from evergreen tropical forests to mangrove swamps and various other forms of vegetation. Being an island, there are numerous coral reefs in the region and they are manifestation of the natural ecosystem of the island. According to the naturalists the numerous species of fauna account for more than six hundred species in Micronesia. These include trees, shrubs and flowers. The island is the home to coconut, plumeria, papaya, hibiscus, Honduras mahogany, Hong Kong orchid, banana, ironwood and eucalyptus trees, which are scattered throughout the landscape.
The rich vegetation on the land and the waters of the Pacific make way for the existence of diverse Micronesia flora and fauna. The ocean is the home of numerous varieties of fish, some of them being rare and close to extinction. On a scuba diving expedition, one can come across sea creatures like manta rays and marine turtles. Other common form of marine life in the region comprises of tuna, barracuda, marlin, mahi-mahi, assorted bottom fish and sailfish. These fishes are often the victims of game fishing. The Micronesian lands are inhabited by various species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. These include endemic species of birds, fruit bat, monitor lizard and rare species of deer. The diversity of flora and fauna in Micronesia is its special feature.
