Eritrea Society and Culture reflects the different customs, tradition, religions, beliefs, ethnicity, languages and fashion of the Eritrean people. In the Eritrean society, family and community is dominated by men. Most of the families prefer boys than girls. Women are therefore less attended with respect to education and employment.
Eritrean Culture
The Eritrean people comprise of several cultural groups known as Tigrinya, Saho, Kunama, Tigre and Afar. Tigrinya is a dominant ethnical group in Eritrea. Eritrean architecture reflects the influence of the British colonialism. There are a number of restaurants, cafes and food joints serving a variety of Italian cuisines. During celebrations and ceremonies, meat is served with the traditional beer known as siwa. Agriculture and trade are the main sources of income for the Eritrean people.
Role of Women in Eritrea
In the Eritrean society, women are considered inferior in comparison to men. Girls are engaged into household activities like cooking, washing, cleaning and taking take of small children from a very young age. They are married at the age of twelve. Although women are allowed to attend school, their learning focuses on the enhancement of their domestic skills.
