Colombia society and culture is interesting to study as the people in the various regions exhibit different culture and the Spanish culture, modified with the Colombian culture makes for a unique result. The effect of the same is evident in all aspects pf national life, such as the language, the societal structure, the food, music, art, religion and the likes.
The Spanish arrived in Colombia in the early half of the 19th century and this blending the classic Spanish culture with the native Colombian culture has given rise to a new variety of Spanish language, which is heavily influenced by the native Colombian dialects and languages. Significantly, there are more than 180 native languages and dialects in Colombia. The music too is a unique feature of the Columbian society. In fact several regions are divided an identified based on their musical heritage.
The society in Colombia is well defined by its classes and status and stringent importance if given to an individual's identity in terms of the status he holds in the society. The distinctions based on the class are more rigid in the rural regions of Colombia. The Urban population being more exposed to the modern ways of life are less interested in the society structures.
