Botswana defense is the Botswana Defense Force or BDF. The BDF represents the armed forces of the African country. The titular head of the Botswana Defense Force is the country's president.
The Botswana Defense Force or BDF is a disciplined and effective deterring military force. The primary activities of the force are disaster relief, anti-poaching duties and peacekeeping in foreign lands. The BDF is widely regarded as one of the better military powers in the African continent. The Botswana Defense Force is fully under civilian control. The military does not intrude into the internal affairs of the Botswana government.
The Botswana Defense Force or BDF is composed of:
- One armored brigade
- Four infantry battalions
- Two infantry brigades
- Two armored artillery
- One commando regiment
- One engineer regiment
The BDF receives its military training from United States of America. The African country receives monetary assistance from the International Military Education and Training or IMET of the United States. A number of Botswana Defense Forces receive regular military training on the North American soil. The Botswana army has modern counter-attack vehicles including tanks, armored personnel carriers, anti-tank military launchers and sophisticated state-of-the-art surface to air missile launchers.
