Kisumu is an equatorial town where the weather is hot all year round. It enjoys two wet season
from April-June and October-November. It has a multi-ethnic (Luo in majority) population of 400000 people. Kisumu is a pleasant sleepy town on the shores of a lake. It is also the main town in the Western Highlands.

Kisumu is the third biggest town of the country. In 1910 it became the administration center of the area as soon as the railway line from Mombassa was completed. The economy of Kisumu was dependent on the main port in the old days as it was a hub of transport activity between the coast and Uganda and Western Tanganyika. However the splintering of the East African Community in 1977 cost it much of its business. Nowadays Kisumu is the center of a prosperous farm region. It has got a successful export industry as well.

Getting to Kisumu is not a tough job. One can reach the place by air, road or rail from Nairobi. People often go for the railway route because they can get a wonderful view of the wildlife along the way. Flights from Nairobi are available in regular interval.
