The primary thing that is noticed about Mozambique is its Geography. World's 36th largest country, Mozambique is 309,475 square miles in size. Located just besides the Indian Ocean, Mozambique is mainly made up of flat Coastal Plains. As one moves inward there is change in the landscape and there are a number of plateaus and mountains towards the Western and Northern borders of the country. A very prominent feature about Mozambique is its Rivers which includes the Zambezi and Limpopo.
To now about Mozambique, is very important to understand its past and the historical developments of the region. The Bantu speakers, Arab and Swahili traders were the first to migrate to Mozambique and later Vasco da Gama landed on the Coast of Mozambique and soon in the year 1505 Mozambique became a Portuguese Colony. It was only after 470 years that Mozambique succeeded in acquiring independence from the Imperial Portuguese. However, soon after independence a bloody civil war engulfed the country. The civil war ended after 16 years with alterations in the Constitution.

There is a marked cultural and linguistic diversity in the country and it is apparent in their artistic traditions, clothing, and ornamentation patterns, song, oral poetry, dance, clothing, and ornamentation patterns and performance.
