The city of Malmo was founded in the 12th Century and like most Swedish cities it was under the Danish control for a long period of time. The older part of the Malmo town is where the main attractions of the city are located. Encircled by canals, a trip to the older part of Malmo is to be started by a walk at the Centralstationen. The vast market square of Stortorget which dates back to the 16th Century is a major attraction of the area. The city of Malmo houses a number of historic buildings and popular shopping areas.
Malmo like most of the places in the shores of Scania has a temperate climate and the average temperature is above 10 °C in the warmest months and the average temperature in the winter months is above -3 °C. The climate makes Malmo a very active place and the city is continuously on the move. An exceptionally well developed transport system makes it very easy to reach Malmo as well as to travel within it. Whether it is the boat, plane, train or car Malmo has the facility of all. The Malmo card makes it even easier to travel within Malmo as it entitles free rides on local buses, free parking, free entrances to important sites etc.
