Introduction

The flag of St. Kitts and Nevis comprises two five-pointed white stars on a slanting black stripe, with yellow fringes on both sides, differentiating the shades of red and green as the setting. The design was the champion in a local contest. The ensign includes the Pan-African shades, however, the shades are formally given distinct importance:

• The red color stands for the battles of the inhabitants of Saint Kitts and Nevis from the era of the slave trade through settlement to freedom
• The green color symbolizes the fecundity of the island
• Black stands for the African legacy of the inhabitants
• The yellow color stands for perennial daylight
• The two white stars represent Saint Kitts and Nevis and trust and autonomy.

History Saint Kitts and Nevis flag was officially approved on September 19, 1983, once it achieved freedom from the British reign. The nation is also called St. Christopher.

The ensign was put forward in a contest, and the plan was okayed by the College of Arms of England, the monumental organization for several countries that are members of the Commonwealth.
