Dhankuta City Map

Dhankuta is a small urban settlement on the Himalayan foothills of Nepal. It was an important trading post in the immediate region at one point in its history.
Dhankuta lies on a Himalayan mountain ridge. The surroundings are extremely beautiful and picturesque. It is located 75 kilometers away from the Terai or plain lands of Nepal. The topography of the town is scraggy. The only flat earth in this human settlement is the main bus stand. The Nepal town of Dhankuta ascends further up the mountainous landscape. The town is not part of the Nepal tourist trail.

Dhankuta in Nepal was well known to the British administration during the days of the Raj. The town was the recruiting center of Gurkhas willing to fight for the European imperial power. The Gurkhas are known for their absolute fearlessness and valor in the battlefield. The Gurkha Regiment saw action in World War II. The many regiments recruited from Dhankuta of Nepal were responsible for many British victories in battles during the second World War in Europe, Northern Africa and also against the Japanese in the Malaya region. The regiment is also credited with ensuring the continued supremacy of the United Kingdom over seemingly disputed territories in the Middle East and South America.
